The Museum of Torcello, founded in 1874, is divided into two sections. The Archaeological Section, set up in the Palazzo dell’Archivio, gathers remains coming from findings in the lagoon and the area around Altino and artifacts of private collections of other geographical settings, covering a time lapse from the Paleolithic to the late Roman period. The Medieval and Modern Section, situated in the Palazzo del Consiglio, exhibits works and documents dating back from the VI to the nineteenth century, which witnesses the past of the island and the wealth of its churches and monasteries now disappeared.
