Simulacra Romae (European project Culture 2000)

In 2000 the Department of Culture of the Province of Venice joined in the European project “Simulacra Romae (Images of Rome). Rome, the provincial capitals and the development of the first European urban landscape”, sharing the idea that the full integration of all the states of the European Union can only be achieved through the recognition of the common historical, cultural and social heritage.

The Romanization of west-central Europe, that the project “Simulacra Romae” illustrates by comparing the capitals of the Roman provinces, was an extraordinary historical process on the way of a first common European space, aiming at joining different political entities, different laws and administrations and creating equal social and economic structures.

We cannot prevent from knowing the different characteristics of a process that had so much influence on the history of European nations from Middle age to the present days.
